I suppose it wouldn't be so bad if people voted on acting and public performance in suit. Even if still unnecessary, it would at least be a neat little boost that people enjoyed and respected your talent for the "art". :P
But, alas, it's mostly people voting on 'ooo it looks pretty!!' or 'I like that suit maker!' or 'I know that person!'.
Get ready for 'VOTE FOR ME' filling your friends list for the next few months. Sigh.

Yeah, I remember the last time the tourney went down. I haven't been reading LJ too much lately and so I'd forgotten that the tourney was even open in the first place.
I know SO MANY people who need to be acknowledged for their performances, for their involvement in the community, for the fun times they bring to kids (even random people on the street!!) and this tournament, while a "nice idea," looks good on paper but doesn't quite do the job.
I'd rather my friends come suit with me, than sit on LJ voting for my costume in some tournament. :P
I'm glad I didnt get on the list this time as well, If I would have I would have asked to been removed..
hmm someone moninated me but i could care less about it its just a game on the internet it woul be nice if people could vote on achievements, and sutch for children they have done.
Me? Why, I fursuit for the fame, the glory, the money and all the hot wimmin who follow...uh...um... Oh. Right.
I don't have a fursuit? Gee, wow. That would probably explain why I've gotten those really mean-sounding death threats, and why the cops keep bugging me. A lot!
And I guess that's why the nice people in the white jackets keep trying to get me to put on that strange-looking "hug me" coat with the REALLY long sleeves...

ROFL.
You crack me up. :D
That's me--- "Cracked inna head..."
Just finished reading your con report. Glad you and Joe had such a great time. Crazy thing is, it's easier for me to go to an "away" con than it is to go to a con one city away. ...sigh...
Ciao!
Even though I was around/seeing the posts during last year's tourney, I didn't pay a lot of attention and feel like I missed something (based on yours and others posts lately).
I'm guessing, it ended up with the prettiest suits and/or most popular people winning rather than based genuine performance/goodwill stuff?
It saddens me to read someone like Gilmore getting down on himself because he didn't get in the nominations. Talk about a guy who really puts himself out there for good causes, entertaining sick kids and bringing joy to a lot of people. I'm actually hoping Gilmore reads this since he disabled comments on his last post. I think if the tourney was a fair judge of character and integrity around suiting he'd be at the top of the list.
That being said, I'm not against the tourney or anything. I won't say I'm not happy I got some stuff nominated. But I am confused about the voting criteria. And I agree, the important stuff is bringing joy to others.

I agree, 100%!!!
Gilmore is an inspiration to me, and to a lot of other performers as well, I know. He does so much work, and brings so much love and happiness to people through his costuming. He's one of my favorites to suit with, and he's got a costume for EVERY occasion!
Sadly, the tourney is just a LJ-poll, and those are never a good judge of character or personality. Those can be measured, however, by the friends that you have.... and the friends will also stick with you much longer than any winning LJ post ever could. :P
Seconding your comments about Gilmore. I was literally stunned last night to receive an e-mail that my wolf suit got me nominated... I'm flattered, and I realize I might win a round or two based on cuteness (which is LV's doing, not mine), but I don't expect anything more than that, because I don't feel like I belong there. Gilmore is FAR more talented than I as a builder AND a performer, he's FAR better known, he does FAR more good with his suits than I ever have, he's FAR more deserving than myself and most other names on that list. This tournament fundamentally means NOTHING, so there's no way Gilmore or anyone else should use it as a measure of their worth. Gilmore, if you're reading this - we love you!
gilmore has done so mutch ^.^ he should like totally take this thing and win for overall performance and stuff.. i was nominated too but i vote for what the person hasdone and not what kinda suit they have.

Remember why you do this in the first place | (Link)

I know why I have done it and why I continue to perform. I just really enjoy and entertaining others.
That said, I think many others just want the attention because when you have that charity event, or that chance to perform outside of the fandom where were they that day or for that event?
Teenage boys. I have had a couple of instances where they jumped right in and made my day. It will happen.
*applauds* Agreed 100%.
I don't fursuit to be popular. I fursuit because I love to do it and I love to entertain. I haven't done any sort of charity events in a while, but I definitly have memories from the ones I have done. We don't need some stupid tournament to see "who is better". I'm not in this either to be the best, I'll fursuit at my level and let those who watch me judge me. ;)
Yes yes yes yes YES. I don't fursuit, but I do dress in a reindeer-satyr costume and parade around the local mall handing out candy canes around Christmas time. I get a lot of questions along the lines of, "Who are you working for?" or "Well, if you're not getting paid to do this, why do it? Isn't it just hot?"
I do it to make people happy, and spread the spirit of the season, and it's wonderful. :)
thanks for the good thoughts and attitude. I'm participating again as other folks have nominated me, and I helped nominate some folks (tho I'd been so busy getting a suit ready for Easter/MP I hadn't done any research and hastily sent in a thrown-together list), but I don't need the tournament for personal validation. People will undoubtedly take the outcomes too seriously, which is where the drama comes from. Those of us who "get it" have already won.
BTW I think I met you at MP, though I doubt I got to introducing myself or my suits, Yippee Coyote and Twilight the purple bunny. Hi!

Yes, we did run into one another at Megaplex! You were in suit most of the time. ;P I was in my fox all weekend... that was you pretending to be Flava in the fursuit lounge wasn't it? XP Regardless, I've added you to my FList. Oh noes!! I don't mind the thought of a tourney and I certainly don't look down on anyone for participating. But I wish some people wouldn't place such importance on it. Fursuiting is no fun if you don't get out there and DO SOMETHING in the first place!!! :)
I dont suit, in fact i dislike the act/notion really, but i respect those that can enjoy it. occasionally one is soooo awesomly done i enjoy it visually, and only enjoy the aethestic. like 3d art. i dont care if the person inside it is doing it for that, doing it for kids or their own indulgence really. just 2 cents ^^ like personally, i dislike bieng hugged or touched by them, nothing agianst the person, i jsut dont phsycially enjoy the interaction with the suit. |
