Megaplex Dealer's Room [Aug. 7th, 2009|08:49 am]
[Tags|, , , ]
[mood | thoughtful]

Those of you that are dealers at conventions, and have/may sell at Megaplex - please go add your opinion to this post:

http://community.livejournal.com/megaplex/115193.html

They're taking a poll and discussing hours for the dealer's room for Megaplex next year.

This year, they were open until 10pm. To me, that was far too late. We closed up shop to go see Hali's concert anyway, and then after that we stayed but didn't even make any sales.

I think the argument of having late-night hours "to potentially generate more sales" is, honestly, a poor one. If the people aren't there (and they usually aren't, since popular events such as Hali's concert, Kage's story hour, or some other event is taking place) then sales can't be made.

More of my thoughts.. )

When it comes down to it, Joe and I have come to the conclusion that we are not going to continue to sell at conventions that keep late-night hours for their dealers and still charge full-price admission, or at least admission over $20. Yes, there is always the possibility of a dealer leaving a table to go attend daytime events - Joe and I had a table all day Sunday at Megaplex and yet I was gone most of the time that day at panels. The big difference for me? I was co-hosting these panels. In other words, I was still working. I don't mind paying and contributing towards convention costs - I've rented hotel meeting space before, I am aware of what it entails - but I would prefer a little more leeway to enjoy the other spaces that the cost of my admission is helping to cover.

Still Alive.. (Public Post) [Jul. 31st, 2009|03:38 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]
[mood | busy]

I'm hanging in here, guys.

A lot's been going on the past couple of months. Of course a lot of you guys know we moved back in the end of May/early June. After that was settled, I quit my full-time job. Not a week after my last day at work, we got the news that Joe's grandfather had passed away, so we tripped up to Cincinnati, for the funeral and time with family over the holiday. Got to see my mom & family in Michigan, too, and our newest nephew born earlier this year.

Since getting back, we've had two conventions in a row- one in Jax, the other in Orlando- and we are finally getting a weekend "off." How far off still remains to be seen. :P

This week has been dedicated to attempting to finish unpacking. Just yesterday, I was finally able to hang some things on the walls. A lot of other things had been taking priority before settling the house.

Now, much of what needed to be settled, has been or shortly will be. After that, I will be able to resume full-time work on projects I have going. Some costume stuff, some jewelry stuff, some art stuff. A little bit of everything, really. But I do feel like I can finally breathe.

A couple of fun things coming up:
This fall we are hitting a couple of anime conventions with our jewelry. We'll have to see how that goes! We did well at Ancient City Con in Jax, so we've invested a little bit in spaces at EXP Con in St. Augustine, as well as Chibi Pa in West Palm Beach. Let me know if you're planning to go to either of those, and stop by to say hi!
Speaking of the jewelry business, we have a stronger online presence. You can watch us on Facebook under the name "Frozen Forge: Hand-Made Chain Maille Jewelry" and on DeviantArt as the user name "frozenforge". We have also expanded our selection on our Etsy shop, so check that out and favorite us there too: http://frozenforge.etsy.com
I'm also beginning more fursuit work. I have a few things I'm cooking up that you all will get to see. Right now I'm helping friends with adjustments, and finishing up some projects, so hopefully soon you guys will get some pics of new stuff.
A few weeks ago, I got an e-mail from an editor for Cookie Magazine, they wanted to photograph a wolf tail to use in an article for costume suggestions for parents, based on the movie coming out, "Where The Wild Things Are." She'd found my site and wanted to know if I could send one along to her. So I whipped out a child-size wolf tail and off it went! My tail will be shown in Cookie Magazine's issue that will be on news stands September 22nd. (Yes, my tail will be famous! Hehehe)

Alright, back to working on stuff... I have dinner to make and more pictures to get out of the way. And floors to vacuum. Ick! :P

FWA [Mar. 11th, 2009|10:16 pm]
[Tags|, , ]
[mood | curious]

Hey everyone!!

Just finding out here who all is going to be going to FWA!! Let me know here. :)

I am looking forward to it. Joe and I are planning on playing tourist this year. We both have paid days off and so we won't be missing any pay from not being at work... SCORE. We might take in the aquarium or something. We did hit the zoo when we went to Dragon*Con and that was fun, we might do that again since we get an AZA discount. Any other suggestions for things to do in/around the Atlanta area are welcome-- and suggestions for stops along I-75. (other than being pulled over by a cop, thank-you-very-much!)

It's going to be a nice, chill year. :) I am NOT going to be tied down at a table this year and so hopefully I can spend some more time with friends!

Looking forward to seeing you guys next week! <3

WHY WHY WHY [Oct. 20th, 2008|06:46 pm]
[Tags|, , , , , ]
[mood | lazy]

Why oh why do we always miss DORK CONVENTIONS that are HERE IN TOWN and don't hear about them until AFTER the fact??

http://www.projectexp.org/

St. Augustine is a li'l bitty town. But apparently big enough for not just Ancient City Con (which cheated and moved to Jax this year) we are also big enough for our own anime convention?? that has the voice actors for characters like Vash the Stampede and characters from Cowboy Bebop, Final Fantasy, and more?

AUGH WHY.

It was in the paper TODAY after the fact, so I could see pics of the people having fun over the weekend. ._.

Looking on the bright side, though, I did NOT need another event planned for this weekend. I needed exactly what I got: a peaceful, restful weekend! Brought Reo to church to work a booth for Canines for Christ, the nursing home ministry that we are a part of, spent time down at the Mission Nombre de Dios just reading by the pond, and walking to Borillo's from the Mission to get New York style pizza. (Yes, it's so greasy that you have to fold it up to eat it) Last week my eye had taken on a twitch; not so much today, it seems as if the twitch has gone. Apparently it wasn't the caffeine after all, it was being "on the go" so much.

Got a bit on my plate for this week, some work to do at home, today I've been doing some house cleaning since Joe is working some overtime. Got the ferret/cat room cleaned (cages & litter boxes, food & water, ran the vacuum( and put some stuff away in the closet there... going to finish putting up decorations. Had been keeping them down since I was hoping to hear yea/nay sooner on the house, but I don't want that to get in the way of our house being cute. :P

The weather has been GORGEOUS lately, been keeping the windows open. The cat loves sitting in the living room window watching out. He sits on the sill, and the dog lays his head on the arm of the futon to watch outside, too. They're such good kids. :)

Dragon*Con [Sep. 2nd, 2008|09:23 pm]
[Tags|, , , , ]
[mood | accomplished]

Not going to write up quite a full con report but figured I'd write a blurb so everyone knows we're home safe and sound.

Had a BLAST hanging out with [info]nomadfox and [info]colley as well as my coworker P and of course my hubby <3. Also next-door-quasi-roomies [info]blaez, [info]fauxpawroo, [info]sophiecabra and others I don't recall? And shout-outs to the million-and-one pals old and new that Faux Paw invited over for pizza. XD

Got to see a bunch of other friends too! [info]tiger_paw_atl and [info]nick_tiger and the rest of the FWA crew. [info]glowsheep it was good to see you again, and [info]grrrowly too! [info]hossblacksilver was good to meet you. And [info]cutest_sandgirl -- it was fun to finally get to meet you in person, you're so sweet! :)

I had a lot of fun costuming. Joe and I had our jungle cammo Stargate outfits. I think only, like, TWO people got the "SG X" reference though. I saw a million SG 1 patches. :P

Sunday night we needed to take a walk over to the bank and Joe was getting into his Stargate outfit so I decided to be silly and wear mine too, plus border collie head and tail and hands. (I managed to bust the seam on THREE FINGERS but it was worth it...) We walked to the bank then into the food court and got ice cream. It was late though so I took the head off to eat it because there were no kids around. :P Also figured out that I can drink from a water bottle while wearing Rhea, no problem. XD

Had quite a few photos Sunday night while in costume, not just because of my costume but because I ran up to anything armored and hugged it. XD Biggest fun was posing with my gun with a Storm Trooper and watching as immediately a ton of cameras started flashing around me. XD

All in all it was a great time. Lots of friends old and new! And A LOT OF FUN being able to socialize instead of having to work all weekend. I almost got BORED because there were times when I didn't have to DO anything!! D:

Spent ENTIRELY too much time in the art show, but there were some FANTASTIC items there! I picked up a million business cards. :D Chatted with several of the artists, spent entirely too much money there, and came away with some nice art pieces. A couple of cute little illustrations from a dragon artist (one was an adorable little dragon-kitten mix) and some prints from Jasmine Becket-Griffith (she has a distinct art style, you'll probably recognize it) as well as a couple of prints from Stephanie Pui-Mun Law (another you'll probably recognize). I got to chat for a short while with the latter two and they were both very sweet ladies. I can only aspire to how far they've come!

Last but not least. People and their misconceptions about furries. Come ON-- I've seen MUCH more "eww" at Dragon*Con and that was just from walking the halls!! I've never seen so many butt cheeks. D: It was kind of amusing how many people thought that to go to a furry con (KUDOS to FWA by the way for having an AWESOME ad in the con book!!!) you have to have a full suit. Nope, it doesn't work that way!! I'm amused at just how dense some people can be.

Okay off to collapse into bed now! It's been a looooong weekend. And I haven't even been able to write about our trip to the Atlanta zoo or the Super H Mart. :P

Dragon*Con [Aug. 26th, 2008|08:59 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]
[mood | tired]

So we leave for Dragon*Con Thursday evening. Cool!

Two weeks ago Joe ordered some Stargate patches for us to put on our outfits so we'd have at least one costume. I'm waaaaay burnt out from work, so I didn't get to finish our pirate costumes, so we were going to just do Stargate.

It seems like that might not even happen!!

Because the place we ordered the patches from, www.AmericanPatches.com, is taking forever and a day to get our patches to us.

Joe swears up and down that he had checked the site for any word on how long shipping would take because we wanted to get these in time. Also, he noted in the PayPal comments section for the guy to please let us know if the patches were back-ordered because we need them for Labor Day weekend. The guy wrote back and said it wouldn't be a problem.

Here we are, two days to go and we might not get them after all. SUCK.

Last resort? Well, we can print on transfer paper... I've got a ton of interfacing and we can make our own "patches". I really hope it doesn't come to that because we paid freaking $32 for patches that better get here. ._.

Oh well... I don't need to worry any more anyway, goodness knows I've had enough to worry about lately. This is just one more little thing, so, I need to just let it go.

The good news of the day? Joe had an interview with the county for an opening for a water meter reader. Since he'd been working for a subcontractor, the job he was in was technically temporary, and it's basically now been made permanent by his being brought in for the job with the county instead of the contractor. So, that's a good thing! He'll get steady salaried pay, holidays off, and benefits covered 100%. It's about 99% definite at this point-- today they had him do paperwork and drug testing, and they told him he'll be getting an offer letter. But they bent over backwards and gave him an interview today instead of Friday, which, according to the personnel department, was the only time they had available. Which means they want him in that job. (And it probably helps a little that I've sent baked goods with Joe to work and they all commented on my cinnamon rolls and breads when I met them at a gathering Joe brought me to a few weeks ago.)

Okay, I'm exhausted so off to bed with me. Yes, this early.

[mood | tired]

Oh my, we had such a fun weekend. :)

Got home, safe and sound, around 1am.... Joe was so very awesome and nice and drove the better part of the way home. I was so groggy.

Highlights from the convention:

- Our table, right next to [info]animecat's table. Need I say more? We weren't trouble, I swear!
- The dealer's room was nice because where we were located, we had a shelf on the wall *behind* us. Awesome. It also had *gasp* natural light coming in. It was a great atmosphere, not standard con fare by any means! :)
- I wore my new suit but only for a short while: I spent four hours on Saturday sewing it up by hand. Ouch!! Much thanks to Quasi for showing me the stitch to use and AC for helping me sew some. Here's what she looks like (more pics when I get them):

- Dinner each night was fantastic. We went to Cheeburger Cheeburger and had great foods! :)
- You know what? This was the first time I've ever attended a room party at a con. :P I have always been too busy or too tired in the past but we had fun hanging with the CAFA furs on Sunday night. :)
- I got to do SKETCHBOOKS. I -love- doing sketchbooks!! I enjoy making badges too but really like the creativity that comes with doing a character in a sketch, and in fact I would much rather prefer sketchbooks. :)
- Sold my cheetah original that had been following me around for the past year. :D

OK going to go collapse and sleep nao!

Zzzz. [May. 22nd, 2008|02:05 pm]

[mood | tired]

Well, we're packed and we're getting ready to head out for RCFM, two hours later than we'd wanted to but hey, we had a lot to get done.

I only got four hours of sleep last night. Had to take a Xanax because my body just would not settle down for sleep at all, and I took it at 2:30am (didn't acutally fall asleep until about 3) but had to be up at 7 for work.... so when I woke up all my limbs felt like rubber. Bleh. When we get back I am going to see a doctor about this because I have been having these hard-to-sleep nights at least once a month and that's not normal. :\

I had to go in to work for a half day, got a lot done there too, and had Reo with me since I was dropping him at the kennel after leaving work. Poor guy. Hopefully we tuckered him out at work though so he'll rest easy at the kennel.

Okay, enough babbling, we're out of here. Those of you who have my cell number feel free to call me this weekend or send a text!! Latah!

[mood | awake]

Man, I have been so busy lately. Work's been wearing me out too. I have been trying to get all manner of things ready for the convention coming up. I am nowhere near as prepared as I need to be!!!

Going to work on artwork I owe tonight. I have a little bit of homework from Elliott's too as a couple people came up wanting commissions at like 2:00 on Sunday afternoon... but we were leaving at 4... and I didn't want to not get it to them so I just got contact info.

I went grocery shopping earlier today. I must say, I really love the reusable shopping bags I got from Publix. They can fit soooo much more than a plastic bag and I can sling them over my shoulder to carry them all in at once. :P I bought $50 worth of groceries and it all fit into only two bags. Sweet!

I also scored big in the meat department, as I was looking for a pork tenderloin to try out a recipe I found online. They were all, like, $15-$20. Then I came across one marked $3.96. I looked it over, nothing wrong with it, the date was OK and everything; it SAID on the package that it was .64 lb but it was easily as big as the rest of the tenderloins in the display; I'm thinking someone forgot a 2 before the .64! Hah! I win at grocery shopping.

Anyway, to work with me! ^_^

[mood | busy]

It's been a crazy busy weekend. In-laws visiting means lots of being out and about. I haven't had a break since.. oh a while ago. Because lots of hard work at work and then the house stuff and then family.... it's been nuts. I haven't had a spare minute until this evening. Ah well!! It's all good now. :) Joe's folks are out at the beach and I'm finally caught up with over 300 entries on LJ that I hadn't read. Whoops.

So!

Happy birthday (belated, to some) to a bunch of my pals!!! Likeshine's tomorrow, Tet and Matricies earlier this week... and JOE! <3 Happy birthday hubby. :) I got him a really neat silver wolf pendant made by [info]fatfred, who was selling them at the Highland Games back in January when we went down to that. :D Plus I took him out for sushi. Can't go wrong with sushi. :) And Joe's mom and I picked out a chocolate cake with buttercream icing for his birthday cake. :)

In other news we are preparing for RCFM which will be our last fur con for this year, at least that we're planning on. Anything else will be short notice. We will NOT be in attendance at MFM because we have plans to go to Dragon*Con instead. We'll have Ancient City Con later this year, in August. I must say I am a little disappointed in the move of FWA to March. I really liked it being in February and it was easy to get away. Ah well, that's alright. If I were still working the shop downtown I would've been able to get it off easier since it's no longer over a holiday weekend. Hope it still does well. FWA has been a favorite since the beginning though I feel kind of distanced from some of my friends since it's been growing. Guess that happens though. We need to have a con-that-isn't-a-con, that's just a bunch of pals hanging out, that we can just catch up and spend time. I miss that sometimes. But then again, who has the time or the money?

So I've got some work to do tonight, going to work on some icons. I want to do a lot more art but I need to find the TIME. It will be nice when we finally do get our house and have work space so we can spread it all out and manage ourselves more efficiently. :)

RCFM [Apr. 5th, 2008|05:40 pm]
[Tags|, ]
[mood | hopeful]

Well, we sent in our registration as dealers for RCFM, so, as of right now, we WILL be attending!!!

Which means con season is NOT over for us yet! ;_; Ah well. It'll be good to see our friends again! <3

Hopefully RCFM will be better for sales for me personally since I am going to not have other commitments, like doing panels. :P I run myself ragged between panels, fursuiting AND trying to sell so hopefully RCFM will be a little bit better for that. ;)

Plus I can help Joe get some more of his chain maille stuff ready to sell. :)

I haven't ever sold at RCFM (shoot, haven't even attended!! but we're hoping to change that now!!) so I hope it goes well. Maybe it will give us a little extra cash for homebuying. ;) I've heard nothing but good stuff about RCFM so we'll give it a try!!!

Megaplex Report ^_^ [Apr. 2nd, 2008|09:30 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]
[mood | loved]

I keep meaning to type up a report so here goes!!!

Thursday night Joe and I drove up to Jax to go to dinner with [info]animecat and [info]akelavincent for AC's birthday. [info]gilmorelion somehow knew that we were eating soup and managed to interrupt, as usual. ;)

Friday we got in to the dealer's room late, set up about an hour later than it opened, and began our weekend! I helped AC with a panel on life drawing, by being a model in fursuit. ^_^ Then back to the dealer's room. After we closed up, we all went with Stephie and Bucktown and Sophie over to The Landing for dinner. Then headed back to the hotel, chilled for a bit and then came back home so we could get some sleep. ;)

Saturday was busy for me! Joe and I got in a little bit late but with good reason- we brought Krispy Kremes for anyone who could grab them before they disappeared. ;) I helped AC with two panels, one was for "tools of the trade" with artwork, and Stephie was there too, and that was fun!! Then later we had "designing for fursuits" and I was in Adie for that, helping to illustrate how to create a good reference drawing to be given to a fursuit maker. We also touched a little bit on building fursuits, but not too much. Then back to the den, and we packed up in time to catch Bucktown's act and Hali's concert. Both shows were most excellent!! Hali serenaded a couple that was having their 40th anniversary party at the hotel, next to our main event room. XD The music was great, and AC and I raised a cheer for "one more song!!!" in which Hali sang "In The MUCK" which absolutely ROCKED because it reminded me of "the good ol' days" and then he sang the song from Portal for his closing song. And it's funny. You know how back during Woodstock, everyone carried a lighter in their pockets, and they would wave their lighters during a song? Yeah, well times have changed. What the GEEKS have in their pockets are not lighters, but cell phones. And I kid you not, everyone in the room had a cell phone out, and opened, and held up in the air to glow. It was so hilarious, so surreal. LOL!! After the concerts, AC and Akela, me and Joe, Stephie, BeeeJaay, DrakenByte and (someone whose name I forgot oh noes!!) went to get dinner at The Loop. When we were done eating (everyone except Joe got milkshakes, so I shared mine with my hubby) we went to play on a fountain that had some big lions on it. I spotted a tree frog clinging to the side of the fountain and I picked it up, and it peed all over my shirt. ;_; Apparently it was memorable to everyone when I squealed "the frog peed on me!!!" :P Then we dropped AC and Akela off at the hotel and headed back home for the night.

Sunday rocked awesomely. Got up, got to the hotel on time and with bagels from Panera (we kept a lot of people fed this past weekend!!) and then AC gathered me up for the fursuit parade. I hopped into Adie and grabbed a beach ball I'd brought with. The parade was fun, a lot of suiters (~45 suits, for all of 255 attendees at the con! good turnout!) and afterward they played some music videos in the main room so a lot of us suits rocked it out dancing around. Danced with Roxi a little, and of course with River and Sebastian. :) I managed to pop a seam in my paws so off to the headless lounge for repairs! Then I had to get back to the dealer's room.... finished up the day, spent a short bit of time in the art jam, then we packed everything up and went out to Panera for dinner with AC, Akela and Stephie. (I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!) We giggled and cackled and all nearly died of laughter just talking about anything and everything, then headed back to the hotel for closing ceremonies. After that, we hung out a little bit, AC and I talked shop, and then we got suited up and went down to the dance. DJ Spiderman was SUPER AWESOME (I got a Spiderman hug too, before I left) playing the best of the 'Net. Man, I never have danced so much in my LIFE. And I felt every bit of it. ;_; But I rocked it through all sorts of fun songs, White & Nerdy, Dragosta din tea, and even led around the VengaBus, LOL. Man. Good times. I had to duck out early because I'd been dancing so hard my asthma was killing me. ;_; Got out of suit, ran through the shower and then Joe and I packed everything else up (my suits were all that were left) and then went to say goodbyes. Chilled for a little while with some folks including [info]brace_bear (missed you throughout the con!!! Glad we got a LITTLE hang time!) and helped devour a few of the leftover munchies in the suite. ;) Hey, I love to nom some chex mix! :P Finally we had to go, it was getting late, so we left for home.

The whole weekend was just so nice and laid back, so chill, it was a nice change of pace.

Some highlights and quotes:
- BIGGEST ONE. GYL HUGGED A FURSUITER. CALL THE PRESS!!!! <3
- Rocked the cash box.
- The frog peed on me!!!!
- Akela bagged Joe's jewels. O_o;
- I about killed AC illustrating what the undead mourning dove that sits on the cranky old neighbor's roof sounds like. >_> :D
- SHOUTOUTS to all sorts of folk!!!! Ahkahna & Greg, Julie, Gyl & Josh (who I didn't get to see!), Shine, DrakenByte (& her partner in crime), BeeeJay & Undying Song, Gen, Karl & Marti & V, AC and Akela of course, SOPHIE so nice to finally meet you!, Stephie - we miss you!!!, Hali - thanks for a great concert! Thanks for coming back to your table so I could throw money at you ;) - and BUCKTOWN YOU FREAKING ROCK!! <3 WildBill, I'm raiding your photos for stuff to show friends at work! :) Shamus, thanks for coming by and music dorking with me! ;) Brace for taking such great care of the sponsors!! ALL of the staff from Megaplex... you did SUCH A GREAT JOB! I know I'm forgetting SOMEONE here.... but I want EVERYONE to know that we had SO MUCH FUN and this past weekend was so energizing to me. I miss you all sooooo much!!! I wish I could just drive back up there and you all would be there still. ;_;

Narr. I'm going to go read a little and rest before bed because goodness knows I am still exhausted. The weekend took its toll on me for sure!!!

Sore Shoulders ;_; [Apr. 1st, 2008|08:30 am]
[Tags|, , , ]
[mood | tired]

Wow, that dancing on Sunday night REALLY took its toll on me. I'm feeling today like I should've felt yesterday! :P

My shoulders are really sore, like right by the base of my neck. I used the "massage" setting on the showerhead for a bit... and Joe rubbed them a bit... and I rubbed them a bit... and they're still sore. I meant to heat up my little lavendar-rice heating pad thing but didn't have the time before work. I guess that will have to wait until tonight. At least we have comfortable chairs here at work!

Last night I got home from work, initiated bills that needed to be paid (I think I got them all!) and then promptly fell asleep after eating dinner. I slept from about 7 until 11 on the couch, when Joe woke me up to send me to bed. Heh. I slept straight on through the night and it felt goooooood. ;P

I think PCD is starting to hit but again it's weird because the con was -local-. We somewhat knew the area. I got used to the fact that my furry friends were just an hour's drive away and now I have to get used to the fact that they -aren't- there any more. Joe and I have been missing all of our friends terribly.

Full con report will come soon, I swares! ;) For now, work. Since yesterday was the end of the month I've got a lot to process. :P

Back from Megaplex... [Mar. 31st, 2008|08:49 am]

[mood | asleep]

Well as back as we can be, seeing as we never went anywhere!! LOL. :P

Was an absolute BLAST, had fun with friends we've been missing, missed friends who couldn't make it, but basically it was a great weekend of recharging that I needed badly.

Last night we left around 11ish because Joe said "6:30 is going to come far too quickly..." We wanted to stay and lounge around with pals but we both had to work today.
I guess since Joe said that, 6:30 ended up not coming quick ENOUGH - after going to sleep at 12:30, I woke up at 2 to go use the bathroom, only to realize I was suffering symptoms of food poisoning. Argh! I tried to get rid of whatever it was, couldn't do it, so I went downstairs to roll around for the next four hours on the couch, catching a couple minutes of sleep here and there, continuously waking up having to go to the restroom because something was threatening to leave my digestive system through one end or the other. After the alarm went off at 6:30, I showered, and promptly collapsed into bed because FINALLY my stomach was feeling better... at 7:15. Argh!! Ended up sleeping until 8, thank goodness Joe was a sweetheart and got my work clothes together for me and made me some lemon ginger tea, and I was out of there quick enough to only be half an hour late for work. Woo. :P (And since I'll be working through my lunch it's OK that I was late.)

I forgot the new hire has her orientation today so I have to suck it up and do her daily work. Thankfully that doesn't take too long but I'm hoping it's EASY because I can't brain today. Meh. :P

Will write more about Megaplex later tonight. ;) Until then, those of you I got to see, I WANT YOUR PICTURES omnomnomnomnom. :3

Megaplex [Mar. 26th, 2008|08:42 am]

[mood | excited]

Wow, can you believe Megaplex is coming up TOMORROW ZOMG. XD

Well, sort of. Tomorrow I get to see AC and Akela and whoever else is coming down. <3 (who all IS coming anyway? I mean other than the people I get to see because they live in Florida. LOL)

It's kind of surreal. Having a con (relatively) in your town makes it seem like it's not happening, because you don't have to pack and gear up for a big trip and all that stuff.

Joe and I will both be in the dealer's room. I'll have my arts as usual, and Joe's bringing his chain mail stuff, which he's been teaching me to do and I've been helping him make some stock. :) (We finally have some photos of some of the stuff on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/24939656@N07 ) I can't do anything terribly complex- just some little basic things but I can help a little at least. :) (Some of the stuff Joe's done.. man! Those tightly woven things? I don't think my fingers have enough control for that!)

Oh and by the way if anyone has requests for the chain mail stuff let Joe ([info]silverdark) know about it so he can getcha in line. :) He will be doing custom work at the con. ^_^ And of course we'll bring lots of rainbows with us!! :D

Tonight I'm gonna be packing up the fursuit stuff and getting it ready to go, and I'm also going to be getting all my art stuff ready. We're going to try and keep it to the bare minimum this time around!!

Megaplex is tentatively the last furry con we'll be attending this year... IF we get the house. If we have the house we will have to skip RCFM (our closing date will be the end of May, so...) and we'll have to skip AC too. We are visiting NC over Labor Day weekend so that (among other things) rules out MFM. We *might* get to MFF but that is -highly- unlikely.

We WILL be going to Ancient City Con, which is being held in Jacksonville this year. We haven't sent in our table reg for that yet. It's in August, and it's all the gaming/sci-fi/fantasy/anime stuff. It'll give us a taste for how the chain mail (which will be our main focus) sells at other types of cons. I'll probably bring my binder of prints in case someone wants one but I'm not counting on it. (Although a couple of my prints might cater to the anime crowd...)

So that's our con season in a nutshell... if we find out (which will be by April 11th) that we are NOT getting the house, we may be able to squeeze in RCFM and AC. But it's hanging in limbo right now. :P

Woooo look, I have a new icon! *points* :D Gilmore, feel free to steal if you want. ;)

(Photo taken by [info]greenreaper)

Some cute fursuit pics back here... Some taken by me, some by Joe, and some by others that I've gathered online... )

I have a few more scattered pics, they can be seen here. The second page is all photos taken by others but with me or my costumes in them; credit is given as the first name in the filename. :)

If anyone has pics of me, or of my costumes, that I haven't gathered yet (and I've uploaded all those that I've gathered to my photobucket there) please pass them along!! :)

Back Home [Feb. 18th, 2008|08:59 pm]

[mood | content]

Made it home safely and in good time.

Had breakfast this morning with Gilmore, Kiwi and Brody, and enjoyed their company as usual. We had such a good time with friends this weekend, I can't believe it's already over.

I tell you what, these conventions are a real high. I love going to see everyone, and meeting new friends. I love too that we get to chat with people that are from places we've either visited or lived, and we can hear updates on those areas, in particular Michigan, and Chicago, and Boone.

I miss everyone so very much, but had a great time. Looking forward to Megaplex next month!! :)

Tomorrow I'll probably type up a full con report. But until then, I will share with you all a photo taken by [info]brace_bear of my new fursuit, Adie:

More pics and stories to come! And believe me, I have both!!! :)

[mood | tired]

Wow, so FWA 08 is over already. And sooooo much fun was had!! FWA just keeps getting better every time.

Some highlights:

- HUGE attendance!! Just over 1,040 people at the convention this year. And it was, what, 270 at the first one, five years ago? Sweet.
- Lots of fursuiters!! The official count after the fursuit parade was 165, but as usual there were some who didn't participate in the parade.
- Great roommates: we had a fun bunch of people. Had a great time staying up late Friday night (though I paid for it the next day) just chatting.
- New fursuit! I had Adie out and about Friday night, for the parade on Saturday, and for a short while this evening.
- Dealer's den was most excellent. As usual, Rama did a wonderful job of running the show, making sure the dealers were taken care of. Lunches arrived with perfect timing and were very tasty! Nothing but good things to say about the den this year.
- Sales were good! I didn't sell TOO much -- I paced myself because I knew I wanted to have a lot of fun at the con too. I only took on a few commissions from people because I didn't want to be stuck with homework. (My art is still becoming known anyway... so I didn't have OMG huge demand for it) Joe did really well with his chainmail, and we had a bunch of cute little charms he got to add onto bracelets or key rings and they did really well too.
- Being next to massage chair = biggest trap ever. :D I got a massage from Emily each day and it HELPED so very much. She has magic hands, she truly does. I think it would've been harder to survive the weekend if she hadn't have been here. And now Joe thinks the dollar-a-minute for a chair massage is QUITE worth it. ;)
- Tons of friends, both new and old. I got to see a LOT of people.

I would do a shout-out but there are WAY too many people that I am afraid I would leave someone out. :( All I ask is that if anyone got pics of Skittle (played by other people this weekend) or of Adie (lots of people were apparently guessing who she was made by but didn't know it was me?) that they send them my way. =)

Joe and I are going to breakfast with some friends in the morning and then maybe making the drive back to St. Augustine tomorrow. It's so hard to believe the con is already over. And we didn't even have any drama. :)

Sleep time!

A new day... [Feb. 13th, 2008|07:55 am]
[Tags|, , , ]
[mood | busy]

Went to bed early last night, around 9:30. Got up early this morning so I could come in to work early and get as much done as possible.

Last night the paws ended up being a bust, but, overnight I slept on it and was able to come up with a better idea that will work easier. Also, I did manage to add the "scruff" of the body suit that needed to be put on.

As it stands, work that needs to be finished for suit tonight:

- Sew "socks" on the arms (I was going to have them detached but changed my mind)
- Sew hand paws
- Sew up tail
- Attach "neck fluff" to front of fursuit head

No time to make feet, but Happy Feet will suffice. :) The suit's looking good, fits REAL well, so I'm content at least. :3

Art stuff needing to be finished:

- Finish up trades & commissions
- Finish up full-color pic I am going to be making prints/magnets of
- Make business cards for fursuit business
- Make new business cards for me, if I have the time
- Get prints of 3 new full-color pics, and print out magnets
- Laminate magnets
- Put together some more pawprint magnets

I am going to be saving a LOT of the art stuff to do when we get to the hotel room. Needless to say it looks like we will not be going to the zoo when we get there. ;P We will be bringing our scanner though and we will be able to scan stuff while we're there... plus if anyone wants to scan something & email it to themselves/the artist we may offer that service for a little fee. ;)

Sooo busy and so much to do at work today... better get to it!!
