Unpacking is Tough Stuff! [Jun. 14th, 2009|06:01 pm]
[Tags|, , ]
[mood | content]

Taking a few for a breather here, we have been working all weekend to unpack things & get settled and I need a little bit of a break. :) You never really know just how much STUFF you've really got until you have to move it... and then unpack it all.

I did pare down a LOT of the clothes in my closet though. I have taken to wearing a lot of the tank tops or "basic tees" from Old Navy, they're comfy and lightweight and good plain tees, so I got rid of a lot of my oversized tee shirts that just did not fit. Also got rid of a lot of things I either don't wear often or have *ahem* grown out of but held onto for, ehrm, motivation. ;) Ended up getting rid of four bags of stuff from the closets PLUS a bag full of extra hangers we never use anyway. Pretty good, I'd say!

One of the things I love about our new location is the wildlife. Mostly birds, of course... although a lot of bugs, too. D: We have seen TWO huntsman spiders here at the new place, after we got a ton of rain. Lots of mosquitoes, which in turn means lots of dragonflies. The cat loves to watch the dragonflies at the sliding glass door, making weird chirrup noises at them that I never heard from him at the old house.

Of the birds, we have seen many different types: herons and egrets a-plenty, to be sure. We have great blues herons, great white egrets, cattle egrets, and snowy egrets. We've had grackles (of course) and doves, we've had red-winged blackbirds and, to my surprise, killdeer! I hadn't seen a killdeer since I lived in Michigan and would visit Lake Michigan over the summer. I didn't even realize we had killdeer in Florida. We have four outside of our house! There is also a little eastern phoebe that sits on a power line on the road right outside of our subdivision, looking all cute every morning. :)
For raptorbirds, we have seen osprey (because our pond behind our house does have fish) and I've even seen some swallowtailed kites. I had never seen those before!

And of course we have turtles in the pond, as well as frogs hopping all over the place. (The frogs leave little presents for us to find on the sidewalk in the morning, eww.) This place is just teeming with good ol' Florida wildlife and I've really been enjoying it. ;)

Alright, to make some dinner, and back to work! Oy..

Joe and I are almost done with the move. MANY MANY thanks to [info]sulinpanda and [info]carlfox for coming out Saturday to help get a lot of the big things moved over. We got two loads of two cars (our little Saturn wagons can actually fit a LOT!!) taken over and now we have maaaaybe two more loads plus a lot of cleaning to do at the old place. Although one room is almost done with the cleaning; there is a lot of dust upstairs that needs to be swept up though.

My back is KILLING me at this point but we are ALMOST done. Thank goodness I get a break from moving to be at work today!! ;)

Speaking of, I am only posting from work to let you all know that we will not have any 'net access over the next couple of days. I can check stuff *briefly* at work, but can't spend time. They should be turning on our phone/net on Friday, but we all know how these things go. Of course there is a McD's right around the corner from our house so we may just go there for our internet fix if we need to. ;)

So if anyone needs to get in touch with either Joe or myself, the first/best way to do so is via cell phone, or if anyone has my work e-mail address I will get that a LOT sooner than my regular e-mail address. And even if I do GET e-mails I probably won't have the time to reply to them... so if you have e-mailed me in the past few days please wait until next week to get a reply!! I will get to it, just as soon as we have our net back. :)

Signing off of LJ until Friday!! Have a great week, folks!!

Quick (Public) Update [May. 16th, 2009|11:00 pm]

[mood | busy]

Things are still crazy. Eh, what's new?

Pushing pushing pushing to finish up that illustration project. I have three out of five complete, one of the remaining two is 75% done. Tomorrow should be the end of it! Whew! Lots of work but producing great images.

Moving in a WEEK AND A HALF. OMG. This is coming up so quick. And it's going to be an absolute weight off of my shoulders. With the illustration project, I haven't had time to pack anything. Joe's been a wonderful help with packing boxes for the move.

My sister's coming down on Thursday already! She was supposed to arrive on Wednesday but I guess that got delayed. Thursday night they'll be here. Then Memorial Day we are going to camp at Disney's Fort Wilderness. I don't think we're going to hit the parks though, we're all pretty broke, so we will just enjoy the freebies @ Disney - there is a LOT to do at Fort Wilderness alone.
I didn't realize until after we booked our stay that Reo's usual kennel is not open on Memorial Day though. D: So we can't drop him off to stay there. If we did, it would have to be SATURDAY because they're not open Sundays either. So I need to find someone to look after the dog for a day. I'm thinking about asking my landlord since she lives nearby and she loves my dog. ;) Then Reo can stay at home, and just be taken out for walks.

Then comes the move... then comes another surprise that I will announce after the move. Hey, y'all can wait two weeks to hear good news, right? :)

and THEN finally things will settle back down. Things that need to be shipped, will be shipped. Things that need to be finished, will be finished.

I can't wait to get through the end of this month. Stop the Earth, I want to get off!! D:

Down To The Wire [May. 11th, 2009|08:36 pm]

[mood | busy]

Well we are down to two weeks before we close on our house. Yikes! It's coming up fast.

We finally have a liiiiittle bit of extra cash in the bank so we finally went ahead & upgraded our cell phones. Best part about that is, with the wait, the phones we wanted to get went from being $100 after rebates, to being $50 after rebates. We still had to pay $200 up front but we get half of that back. So, yay! In the next few days we should have our new phones. Also changed our rate plan to now include mobile-to-mobile. Part of our problem has been that we didn't have that, we only had 500 SHARED minutes and so if we called each other during peak hours it would double-bill us. Not only that but even though we thought we were paying for early nights & weekends (7pm instead of 9pm) apparently they decided to take that feature off our plan. So that hour-and-a-half-long conversation I had with my mom? Totally came out of peak minutes. Ugh.

So we have all of 30 minutes left on our daytime minutes, until the 24th of the month. ;_; Thank goodness for text messages!!

In other news I have still been crazy busy with that illustration project I mentioned before, it has been keeping me busy after work with not much time for anything else. Gosh, I thought it would be easier than this but it's taking so much time. It's OK though because the end results are going to be worth it. :)

Well I had better scoot, toodles!

Oy... [Nov. 29th, 2006|04:15 pm]

[music |some trancey-techno stuff]

It's a little disheartening, all the money we've been having to spend lately. Let's just say, Joe and I are just a leeeeettle bit in debt. To the point where I am considering selling my wolf costume, the one I wanted to work on some more to get it "just right" so I could wear it around. Oh well. Right now the body is kind of "androgynous" so it would probably sell best that way anyhow.

I might even sell Skittle. Just to get us out of debt.

We're at a point where, after Christmas is all said and done, all three of our credit cards will be maxed. I do not like that.

Eh, so I guess if anyone wants icons or badges... let me know... I've been so busy unpacking all our junk from moving to the new place... Today I unpacked all the rest of our clothes (and am doing laundry) and shifted around the work room so that everything fits in. I didn't unpack all the boxes, but I did get all of the shelving into place so we can have a place to put all our work stuff - art, sewing, and Joe's misc metalwork & sculpture stuff... I whittled away at the stack of boxes behind my desk and shifted Joe's tools out onto the porch, where they're closer to the pegboard in the utility room that they're eventually bound for. Emptied out several boxes, and then I also put together another one of the pine desks we got real cheap from Staples (I have a blisters to prove it) and put my Mac and the scanner on it. (I have my PC in front of me and my Mac just to the left so all I have to do is turn between the two. This will be great for my website work for the store, and if I get back into doing textures for Second Life.) I worked in the kitchen a little bit, but not too much. Also to be done tonight, Joe and I need to let the ferrets run and I need to empty their litter pans. I've been neglecting that because we've been so busy. Argh.

Miss Peach, the lovely lovebird, has been out on the back screened-in porch today. She's been loving it. Her calls go farther when she's outside-ish. :P

Reo has also been lounging out on the porch, and being lazy in general. Must be nice to be someone's pet, not having a care in the world.

We *almost* have the apartment rented. I think we might need to run the ad one more time though. No one's really been *thrilled* with it, but we've had a lot more people calling on it. Last night we showed it to a couple that was basically Joe and I all over again - she manages two shops downtown, and he is a blacksmith/farrier. (I'm "technically" second-in-command at the store - at least I know a good deal about what's going on when it comes to merchandise coming in and stuff, and Joe is into metalworking, yay) They said they would call us back, they are going to see another apartment today some time and said they'd get back to us. We have another showing of the apartment tonight at 6:30 - hopefully we'll GET SOMEWHERE rawr. I do NOT want to have to spend another SIXTY DOLLARS on another ad in the paper. We could've been doing this weeks earlier if the apartment manager at the other place hadn't lied about already having placed an ad. *sighs*

I know everything will work out. I -know- it... We just fit into this place, so I have no doubt that this is where we are meant to be. I just don't know what to do with the other apartment. I wish we could just stop paying on our lease all together because the other guy has been so deceiving and mean. We are not filing a complaint about him *yet* because we need him to WORK with us to get us out of this bind... but ohhhh the upper management will be hearing about this.

Eh. I had better go eat something, I haven't had lunch yet. Maybe I'll play a little Gunbound to pick myself back up. Yes, Joe and I are playing Gunbound again. It's not as good as it used to be though.

Isn't that the way.

Second Load to the New Place... [Nov. 14th, 2006|12:04 am]
[Tags|, ]
[mood | busy]

We took a second truck load over. We haven't been FILLING the truck, but we got the futon, the coffee table, and the ghetto book shelf over to the new place. We put Joe's desk out by the dumpster - we're downsizing our furniture. Considering most of our furniture (with the exception of our bed, a wedding gift; our futon, from a thrift store; the coffee table, an incredible sale find; our dresser, a thrift store find; my work desk, $2 from a thrift store; and our kitchen-cabinet-turning-dresser-once-more from a garage sale) came from dumpster-side or was otherwise given to us by someone no longer requiring it, we don't feel so bad giving it up, too. So his old desk is gone, he will be using the one I'm using now, and I'll go back to using my old desk with a hutch. We will also be getting rid of what used to be the side-table next to the futon in this apartment; it served us well but again, we no longer need it (don't want too much clutter) and so we'll probably just end up setting it out by the dumpster for someone else to find and use.

It's nice to downsize like this. I may get rid of even more clothes as I go through stuff tomorrow. I'm planning on doing some of the closet things, as well as some kitchen things; I want to take one or two trips up to the new house, and start setting some things up.

We estimate, there will probably be only two more *truck* loads, one for the desks/cabinet in the kitchen, and one for the bed. We're really doing pretty well. I'm so glad that my bosses don't mind us moving some stuff in. In fact, they hardly pay anything for the townhosue - I found out it's been in my boss's posession for around 20 years, since before the husband met the wife. So, they got it for DIRT cheap. Cool.

By the way, here's a picture of it from the outside. Pretty much the entire area that's shown in the photo is ours. It's got a bedroom upstairs, and then on the back there's a screened-in porch. It's REAL nice. I'm so excited. :)

P.S. Being busy with moving explains why I'm going to be kind of "idle" when it comes to online stuff. Packing and getting ready to move (and moving!) keeps me from putzing like I normally do. Woo!
